CASTING NOTICE
SoBe Institute of the Arts (SoBe Arts), Miami Beach, is casting singers for the world premiere performances of the opera Hamlet, music and libretto by Carson Kievman, commissioned by the legendary theatrical producer Joseph Papp (A Chorus Line, Hair, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and others) for the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theatre in New York City.
World Premiere (Semi-staged concert perfomances). This is the last commission by legendary producer, Joseph Papp (A Chorus Line, Hair, etc) for the New York Shakespeare Festival / Public Theater but until now has never been performed due to his death (from cancer) in 1991. The resulting work is both compelling and powerful according to many who attended a closed partial reading at the Public Theater in April 1990. Based on: The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of Denmark by William Shakespeare. The beautiful setting and excellent acoustics of this intimate venue will truly make this a once-in-a-lifetime experience for attendees and performers alike
Format/Dates
Three weekends of semi-staged concert performances (in costume and make-up), February 23 through March 11, in the Little Stage Theatre at SoBe Arts, Miami Beach.
Conductor, Stage Director
Conducted by John Yaffé (Stuttgart Opera, Warsaw Philharmonic, Florida Philharmonic, Encompass New Opera Theatre, NYC). Stage Direction: Carson Kievman (Tanglewood, Darmstadt Festival, Public Theatre [NYC], Florida Philharmonic Composer-in Residence).
